Abruzzo Geography

Abruzzo is a region on the eastern Adriatic coast of Italy, roughly in the centre, and only 70 km from Rome. The region borders Le Marche to the North, Molise to the south and Lazio to the west.

The region has four provinces: L'Aquila the largest with the capital of the region also being the town of L'Aquila; Teramo; Chieto; and Pescara. The total population of the region is only 1.3 million people.

The area covered by Abruzzo is 10,800 square kilometers with about two-thirds being mountainous and home to some of the best wildlife and most relaxing areas.

Perhaps one of the best features for holidaymakers is the 129 km long sandy coastline bordering the turquoise blue seas of the Adriatic. The most popular beach resorts are Vasto, Silvi Marina, Francavilla al Mare, Alba Adriatica and Martinsicuro.
