Sorrento Area Information

Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast towards the south west of Italy is arguably one of the most famous tourist attrcations of this country, and certainly of Campania. This is a very picturesque location with both white and multi-colured houses in a coastal setting. The town is surrounded by lemon and orange groves and is a mix of agricultural, fishing harbour and tourist attraction. It is a wonderful place to take a typical Italian holiday and rent and Amalfi Coast Villa in the surrounging hills or stay in an Amalfi Coast Apartmnet in the town of Sorrento.

The landscape is trully breathtaking with steep mountains dropping nto the sea, deep valleys, terraces with lemon groves, oranges and olives, and a lively, bustling tourist town. There are plenty of wlaks for naturists and there are many local historic places to visit including Naples, Pompei, Ischia, Capri, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, and so on. In the streets of Sorrent itself there are old churches and monasteries unchanged for centuries as well as Pallazi, Durazzo portals and much more.

The main historic attraction is the fourteenth century Cloister of San Francesco, with crossed tuff arches of Arabiic descent which houses the traditional concerts of the "Estate Musicale Sorrentina". Palazzo Veniero is worth visiting as the building is exceptionally rare and valuable because it represents an evidence of the late Byzantine and Arabian taste of that time. Sorrento's Museum Correale di Terranova is located in Palazzo Correale and is home of some grand murals, an eclectic mixture of both Roman and Greek artefacts, together with some stylish Neapolitan paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries.

When visiting the Amalfi Coast for your holiday in Campania, Italy, we recommend a stay in Sorrento where you can find some lovely Amalfi Apartments to rent or some wonderful Amalfi Villas just outside of the town.
