The total population of Campania, of which the Amalfi Coast and Cilento are a part, is 5.6 million. Most of these people live in and around Naples or in a myriad of towns on the Sorrento Peninsula and Amalfi Coast.

Naples is a busy city and somewhat chaotic like the nature of its inhabitants. This is a poor city in relation to the cities in the industrial and business north of Italy.

A lot of the coastal towns and the people have a holiday riviera feel to them and are heavily based around tourism. The Amalfi Coast has reminiscences of the glory days of the rich and famous from the film industry of the 1950's and 1960's.
