The small medieval village of Grutti surrounds this castle which dates back to XII AD. The property is submerged in beautiful and unspoilt countryside in the middle of Umbria, not far from Assisi, Perugia and Spoleto (about 30 minutes by car). There are a range of Umbria apartments in this castle and surrounding buildings.
This lush plateau sits 520 metres above sea level with clean forest air, a mild climate throughout the year, and enjoying natural produce from the earth. The property stands austere and proud against the blue sky, surveying the countryside over vineyards, olive groves, lush woodland and the gentle rolling hills.
Guests can enjoy a beautiful swimming pool (June to September) at the back of the mediaeval walls. Beyond the pool the scenery provides an extraordinary view of hills covered by olive trees, vineyards and old oak woods.
Thanks to the nearby famous art cities, culinary and cultural itineraries can be lived day after day in the heart of the Umbrian region. The central and strategic position of this property, between Todi and Spoleto (east-west) and between Perugia and Terni (north-south), permits an easy exploration of the most important artistic and natural centers of the region in a relatively short time. There are waterfalls, Lake Trasimeno, the Natural Park of Monti Sibillini, and much more to discover.
Some days, when it is very clear, it is possible to see even the city of Montefiascone, built on the top of a hill in the region of Lazio. The nearest Martani Mountains offer very many surprises where you can meet cows and horses living together in the wild. This is a truely relaxing environment where it is possible to take long walks or just enjoy the countryside and quiet nature.
The local inhabitants have a strong sense of community and every last 10 days of August they represent not only the Mediaeval Tournaments where they dress in the typical mediaeval clothes, but also the tradition of mediaeval cooking.
Restaurants (20 Mt. – 4 km and more !), Horse riding centre (1 km), Airport for micro-light planes / tourist flights (1 km), Clay pigeon shooting (7 km), Parco del Sole (Sun Garden)/ little zoo, 3 km of naturalist path (10 km), Hiking and biking paths.
Recent restoration work has resulted in a harmonic blend of modern day fabrics and furnishings complementing the sober elegance of the castle’s mediaeval origins: The rooms of the castle have been redecorated to recreate the elegance of ancient times – all recreated with painstaking attention to traditional Umbrian style.
The Tower is divided into 8 comfortable and stylishly furnished apartments of various sizes with large bedrooms (double or triple) with bathrooms, dining rooms and a range of provided services making for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The hall areas are warmed by large stone fireplaces with travertine frames, furnished with comfortable and romantic settees.
All the apartments on the upper floors are also reached via an elevator, as well as having independent heating and a TV. The bedrooms have cotton linen and warm quilts, stoned barrel-vault and trussed ceilings with chestnut beams and flat tiles, recovered from the original mediaeval structure.
Cooking corners and kitchenettes are equipped with crockery, dishes and cutlery as well as a stove, oven and sink. The bathrooms have a bathtub or a shower and are provided with soft towels.
