Assisi Apartments & Villas (Umbria)
Assisi is an attraction in its own right. Walking through the town, one may perhaps observe a nun opening an automatic garage door set in a 13th century wall, or a monk, probably in a brown cowl and sandals, passing silently by. At the northern end of the town, around the Roman theatre, new housing has been built in the traditional, oval style.
The Rocca Maggiore, which watches sombrely over the town, has been destroyed and rebuilt several times. Authentic Italy offers a wide range of self catering Assisi accommodation in the town of Assisi and the countryside of Umbria, you can rent Assisi apartments and rural Assis villas in this region. This town is certainly worth visiting when you spend your holidays in Italy.
Assisi is famous, of course, mainly due to St. Francis, who founded the Franciscan Order, with its rejection of worldly temptations, here in 1208. The basilica of St. Francis is dedicated to him. The town of Assisi stands at 400m above sea level, on a spur of Monte Subasio, in one of the most typical regions of Umbria. Built almost exclusively from the white and pink stone of Monte Subasio, the town is characterised by steep, narrow, crooked alleys, which have retained their original appearance and charm down the centuries.
