San Marco Area Information

San Marco in Cilento is a lovely, unspoilt former fishing village on the wonderful Cilento coast, adjacent to the Cilento national park. The town maintains its authentic Italian characteristics whilst offering enough modern facilities including a couple of small supermarkets shops, restaurants in the small town square and some lovely Cilento holiday apartments and a few Cilento holiday villas nearby. There are also a couple of very nice Cilento Hotels.

The town is quiet with some narrow old streets and there is both a large, sandy and shallow beach, good for children, as well as a very small beach backing up onto the old town walls in the very centre of the town. We recommend the long sandy beach for relaxing, swimming and sunbathing. San Marco also has several nice restaurants like serving a variety of local Cilento dishes as well as the usual well known Italian recipes. There is a very good Pizzeria near the town square and, on the road leading down to the harbour, there is a very good restaurant, reasonably priced, used by the locals.

If you like Italian ice creams then the best selection, as in the photo, can be purchased in the bar and caf? by the junction of the main road leading down to San Marco. There are so many flavours to choose from that you can have a different one each day of the week. However, note that the ice cream is usually available in the late afternoon and evening when most Italians purchase them and we got caught out a few times earlier in the day and had to settle for Cappuccino and cakes !
