Cilento Villas & Apartments

Around 100 km south of Naples in Italy lies the National Park Cilento e Vallo di Diano, which has scarcely been discovered by tourism (the exception is the month of August, when many Italians invade this area).

The stretch of coast between Agropoli and Punta Licosa incorporating both Santa Maria di Castellabate and San Marco di castellabate has long sandy beaches and faces the Amalfi coastline across the Gulf of Salerno; on clear days you get views stretching from Maiori in the east to Sorrento in the west and then the island of Capri and, slightly between and behind the mainland and Capri, the island of Ischia.

Cilento is also marked with solitary sandy beaches between bizarre rocks and facing turquoise and emerald-green water. Capo Palinuro and the coast of Marina di Camerota is certainly one of the prettiest landscapes of the Tyrrhenian sea. The name of the cape stirs from the helmsman of the ?neas, who was a barbarian resident killed in this area.

Numerous archaeological sites - like the Nekropolis ? demonstrate a rich past. This area was already inhabited in the Stone Age. The bay ?La Molpa" is especially picturesque - it is situated in a wind protected half circle east of Palinuro. The remainder of the old settlement can be found on the plateau above. The landscape is marked with endless olive plantations, cactuses and powerful Agaven, broom and wild geraniums.

The coast has numerous bathing beaches, romantic bays and rock grottos. Many grottos can only be reached via the water. The grotto ?the Porchi? can be reached on foot via the ?Della Marinella? beach ? this is especially recommended around noontime, as the light reflections are most spectacular then. The Grotto Azzurra lies between Capo Fortino and Capo della Quaglia.
