Como Apartments & Villas (Lake Como)

Como is the city in Lombardy at the hub of Lake Como and is well known throughout the world. It is ony 45 km north of Milan and is therefore easily accessible for tourists arriving at the man Milan airports. The ski slopes of Italy are also readily accessible from Como. Many people travel here and rent a holiday apartment in Como but it is not the most attractive of the towns around the lake.

The city is at the southern end of the south western arm of Lake Como and is the capital of the province of the same name. Places to consider visiting are: Maria Maggiore whose fa?ade was built in 1457, with the characteristic rose window and a portal flanked by two Renaissance statues, and the construction being finished in 1740; San Fedele, a Romanesque church erected around 1120 with the original bell tower being rebuilt in modern times; Sant'Agostino, built by the Cistercians in the early 14th Century, and heavily renovated in the 20th century; The Romanesque basilica of Sant'Abbondio, consecrated in 1095 by Pope Urban II; and the Villas Olmo, built from 1797, Melzi (1808-1810)and Carlotta (c. 1690).
