Torre del Benaco Area Information

Torri del Benaco is a popular tourist destination located on the Olive Riviera at the foot of Monte Baldo roughly halfway up the east side of Lago di Garda. The town is located in a beautiful setting of pine trees and olive groves at the foot of the mountain and with stunning views of Lake Garda. Thi was once an ancient village and is still charactereised by enclosed medieval walls and towers. The small Scaliger castle faces the small Roman harbour. Torri del benaco also has a ferry service to Maderno on the west side of Lake Garda. is linked to Maderno on the west coast of the lake by a car ferry. On the north side of the harbour is the fifteenth century Gardesana palace, now a hotel with the same name. Incorporated into the palace is the recently restored church of the Holy Trinity, with frescoes of the 15th and 16th century Veronese school.

The port area was once occupied by Torri del Benaco's merchants, whose ancient dwellings are still present. One of these worth viewing was the home of the Vacaris, functionaries representing the central power of the Venetian republic. Still the central point of life in the town is the harbour area which has the most importnat buildings such as the fourteenth century castle built by Antonio della Scala in order to protect his lands.

When visiting Lake Garda there are many small fishing towns and tourist places that you can stay in. However, for a lovely setting combining lake views wit a mountain backdrop we recommend renting a lake garda apartment in the town or staying in a lake Garda villa nearby.
