La Spezia Apartments & Villas (Liguria)
At the south-eastern end of the Ligurian coast the gulf of La Spezia opens up between two spurs of the Apennine mountains. Nestled under green hills, in a most beautiful location is the town of La Spezia with its approx. 110,000 inhabitants. Bounded on the north by the steep slopes of the mountains of the Cinque Terre, the south opens up to the magnificent bathing beaches at Carrara.
Although La Spezia is a modern port and industrial city, it has been able to preserve its Art Nouveau style, and not only in the city centre. Palms and oleander trees are a feature of the townscape. Tourism is much less important to the town than its large naval base. For accommodation during your holiday in Liguria you can rent a self catering italy apartment in one of the typical Italian villas of Liguria.
The large market in the Viale Garibaldi on Fridays is well worth a visit, as is the shipbuilding museum Museo Navale and the Castello San Giorgio. Excursions run from the harbour to Portovenere, Cinque Terre and Lerici. Ferries also sail to Corsica from here. Northern Tuscany is within easy reach via the motorway. Trips to Pisa, Lucca and Viareggio are all well worthwhile. The steep mountains of the Cinque Terre are especially picturesque ? a charming landscape with vineyards and five small villages, which are best explored by train, as parking is very limited. At Authentic Italy you can book accommodation for a holiday in this area. We offer Italian villas and holiday homes in the peaceful villages of Liguria.
