Arzachena Area Information

Arzachena is situated in the north east corner of Sardinia close to the sought after area of Porto Cervo, the Emerald Coast and the port of Olbia. This is the Gallura region of Sardinia famous for its sandy beaches for swimming and rocky coves for snorkelling. Arzachena was once a small village for agricultural workers and cattle farmers. The town owes its fame to an unusual rock which has been eroded into a mushroom shape as well as its location in the heart of the Costa Smeralda hinterland and to its closeness to many archaeological remains. In fact, up until about forty years ago, Arzachena was a peaceful pastoral village of the interior of Sardinia. Today however, it has been transformed into the capital of the Costa Smeralda, which has become one of the most famous holiday destinations in this region.

The area's territory includes about 80 km of wonderful coastline and, in the 1950's, a group of international investors bought about 3,000 hectares of land and in 1962 established the Costa Smeralda consortium. The result is that Arzachena is now one of the most well known and popular tourist destinations offering visitors plenty of attractions, services, comforts and resorts.
