Olbia Apartments & Villas (Sardinia)
Olbia is a pleasant and prosperous town on the north-eastern coast of Sardinia, its borders forming the sides of a wide, natural inlet, that opens between the two magnificent calcareous geology of Capo Figari and the island of Tavolara. Its origins date back to the 4th century B.C. by the Cartaginians, followed sooner by Roman rule. Belonging to this period is the acqueduct, the remains of which can be visited in the region of Cabu Abbas. There are even traces of ancient Roman villas in the gulf of Cugnana. A wide choice of self catering Olbia apartments and Olbia villas are available for rent throughout Sardinia, Italy.
With the fall of the Roman Empire, Olbia suffered attacks by Vandals, and there is amazing proof of this: a few years ago, during major works to build a tunnel for the new road to the harbour, 26 perfectly conserved Roman ships were unearthed. They had been surprised and set on fire by the Vandals while waiting to enter the safe waters of the harbour. The works in Olbia have slowed down, but have the pleasure of visiting one of the biggest archaeological finds ever.
