Villasimius is situated on the very south eatstern tip of Sardinia forming a type of promontary surrounded by the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. It is the ideal location for a beach holiday where you can rent a Sardinia Villa by the sea or a Sardinia Apartment in the town itself. This enviable location makes it a highly valued plavce for holidays even if undiscovered by many people.
The area is protected by the institution “Area Marina Protetta” (Protected Sea Area) due to its important habitat for marine life. It is therefore good for snorkelling as well as swimming and lazing on the beach.
In the town of Villasimius the most important festivals are “La Madonna del Naufrago”(The Madonna of the Shipwrecked), “Santa Maria” (St Mary) and “San Raffaele Arcangelo” (St Raphael Archangel). These three feasts are characterised by dances in Sardinian traditional costumes with music and poetic compositions.
he first of the festivals takes place in the middle of July with a procession on the sea to the “Isola dei Cavoli” (The Isle of the Cabbages) to lay a wreath of flowers at the foot of a big sunken statue. The statue is located under the surface of the sea in front of the island and it is also visible from the surface just using a snorkelling mask. The seond festival of Santa Maria tkes place in the first week of September and, includes traditional groups from the nearby villages, “Launeddas” musicians and “Cantadores” (singers). The third, San Raffaele Arcangelo’s festival, the patron Saint of Villasimius, falls on 24th October and closes the long summer activities of the island with songs, dances and fireworks. This is a great time to take a late holiday and stay in a Sardinia Villla or vacation in a Sardinia Apartment.
