San Pietro Clarenza Apartments & Villas (Sicily)

San Pietro Clarenza is a small village in Sicily inhabited by nearly 5,000 people, set 450 metres above sea level, along one of the routes linking to Mount Etna, the highest active volcano of Europe. The main activity of the village is agriculture with its oil, wine, fruits and citrus fruits production. There is also handicraft production of embroidery for which the town is well known. In 1669 San Pietro Clarenza was destroyed by a volcanic eruption and in 1693 by an earthquake; the village was soon rebuilt and named San Pietro because of its citizens? religious devotion to this saint.

In 1779 the name Clarenza was added thanks to the purchase of the small town by a noble, Giuseppe Marino Clarenza. On its outskirts it is possible to admire the landscapes of the volcanic hinterland and the panoramas of the nearby Cyclopes? coast with its isolated crags entering the sea (faraglioni. Worth visiting are: Acireale, famous because of its carnival; Aci Trezza the place where the Sicilian writer Giovanni Verga set the novel ?I Malavoglia; l?oasi del Simeto (natural oasis), and the several baroque districts of Catania. Catania is 20 km away, Acireale is 20 km away, Taormina is 40 km away, Siracusa is 60 km away, Caltagirone is 65 km away, Noto is 90 km away, Agrigento is 150 km away.

There are some beautiful holiday apartments in the towns in Sicily and also some wonderful Sicilian holiday cottages and Sicilian holiday villas near the coast for self catering holiday rent. A perfect place to spend your holidays in Italy.
