Trapetto Area Information

Trappeto (Trappitu) is a municipality of just over three thousand people in the province of Palermo, situated on the north west coast of Sicily. It is part of the metropolitan area of Palermo. This is a artment on this island in the Mediterranean.

Local agriculture includes citrus fruit, vegetables, grapes, olives and peaches. There is also lareg production of fresh fish and even a Feast of Fish in August.

The name Trappeto comes from the Latin Trapetum which means oil-mill and Cannamellarum that means sugar-cane. However this small town rose in the fifteenth century due to growing and cultivatiing sugar-cane. In the town there are various murals created by important Sicilian painters.

Trapetto is however a seaside resort on the coast in the Gulf of Castellammare. The main beach of Ciammarita is a spit of sand a few hundred metres long, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. This area is known to be one of the windiest in Sicily. The sand is a fine grain and golden in colour. It is still a good plave to rent a Sicily Apartment or Sicilian villa for your holidays.
