Pistoia Area Information

Perhaps one of the lesser visited cities in Tuscany is Pistoia which is a provincial capital. However, we recommend visiting this quiet and well preserved medieval town at the base opf the Apennines and only 30 minutes from Florence. It was originally a Ghibelline city until it was conquered by the Guelphs in 1254. Today there are some lovely Tuscany Villas to rent for holidays in the area or alternatively a Tuscan apartment in Pistoia itself.

There are a variety of Palazzi to visit in the town such as Palazzo Communale or Palazzo Pretorio as well as a range of other hitoric buildings such as teh church of Santa Maria Grazie, Museo Marino Marini, San Bartolomeo and the Baptistry at Piazza del Duomo. The surrounding city walls were raised during the fourteenth century and later strengthened by the Medici. The most interesting part of the city starts north of Piazza Treviso. Whether you wish to rent a Tuscan villa in the surrounding countryside or stroll from your Tuscany holiday apartment alond these interesting streets, Pistoia is worth a visit during your Tuscan vacation.
