Volterra Apartments & Villas (Tuscany)
Volterra, situated in central Tuscany was a powerful Etruscan town, which later (12th?13th cent.) became a free commune and passed to Florence in the 14th century. Of note are well-preserved Etruscan gates and tombs, medieval walls, a Romanesque cathedral, and the Palazzo dei Priori (13th cent.). The powerful fortress (built 14th?15th cent.) was converted into a prison. There is an Etruscan museum in the town.
This old Tuscan town perched on a hill with steps reaching up towards the cetre from avruous directions, is very imposing and well worth a visit to explore the history, charm and unique Tuscan atmosphere. We rent lovely Tuscan accommodation around this town in Italy.
