Padova (also known as Padua) is a city in Veneto, northern Italy, 40 km due west of Venice. It is the capital of Padova province and the economic and communications hub of this area. Padua's population is about 212,000 and the city is sometimes included, with Venice, in the Padua-Venice Metropolitan Area, with a population 1.6 Million.

Padova stands on the Bacchiglione River and the Brenta river (which once passed inside the city) still touches the northern districts.
